NDES Has Spirit

Through the creative and collaborative efforts of student council, parent volunteers and faculty and staff, NDES Spirit Week was a roaring success.

The jubilant week commenced with energetic activities each day and concluded with a vibrant NDES Field Day and Walkathon. Students dressed up each day according to the special theme day. Themes ranged from Hawaiian Day, Twins Day, Favorite Sports Team Day to Crazy Sock Day. On Wednesday, the faculty and staff played a competitive game of kick ball against the eighth-graders, with the eighth-graders as the victors.

On Friday, the Lord blessed everyone with beautiful warm weather for the walkathon and NDES Day. The day began with a pep rally with announcements made by walkathon experience winner Ellie Bottino. Students, then received a surprise visit from ND Schools, Tuffy the Lion. Afterwards, students in grades K-5 participated in activity game stations and grades 6-8 played a game of kick ball in honor of Sam Szabo and Colin Boland, beloved students that lost their lives way too soon.

Afterwards, students were treated to hot dog and hamburger picnic lunch complete with a dance party during recess. Then, in the afternoon, students in preschool through eighth-grade began the mile walkathon. The walkathon was a huge success with over $34,000 raised by NDES students to support special programs at NDES.

NDES is very grateful to its donors and walkathon chairAndrea Murphy and her team of volunteers for making this day a tremendous success.

First Communion

On May 20, the second-grade students at NDES celebrated their First Communion as a school community with Rev. Anthony Schueller as the celebrant.  At NDES, students receive the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist in their home parishes. Preparation for the holy sacrament takes place at their parish and at NDES as part of the second-grade curriculum. As a school tradition, once all students have received their first communion, NDES celebrates as a class with a special Sunday liturgy and reception.

Thank you to volunteers Denielle Paglia and Karee Broome for chairing the beautiful reception and to second-grade teachersJulie Amantea and Stacey Modarelli and Sr. Carol Marek, SND, the school’s religious coordinator, for preparing the students for this holy event.
