Bishop Perez visits NDES
It was an honor for the Notre Dame Elementary School community to welcome Bishop Perez to school last week. At a very special prayer service, students shared their wishes for him during this blessed season. The bishop graciously responded to student questions, making a true connection with them.
Third-Grade Spotlight
As part of becoming masters of multiplication, the third-graders enjoyed a project-based learning activity called “Art in the Park.” Students were given parameters and visual multiplication skills to purchase items and create their own park masterpieces.
Third-graders also partnered with Cornerstone of Hope, a center for grieving children, teens and adults. Several times a year the bereaved have opportunity to release a butterfly in memory of their loved one. Students in both third-grade classes put together goodie bags and attached a butterfly cutout to each bag. Students also wrote thoughtful messages on beautiful hearts.
Joy of Giving
Notre Dame Student Council members in grades six to eight experienced the joy of giving on Dec. 10. After leaving school early, students arrived at Target in Mayfield with lists on hand and money to spend. Collectively, the students spent $3,000 on gifts for babies, little girls and boys, tweens and teens. Carts were overflowing with books, journals, board games, technology, movies, Legos, action figures, Barbies and so much more.
Their work did not stop there. The students then made their way to the Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital. The gifts will be shared with both inpatient and outpatient children going through cancer treatment.
Humbled by the experience, the Student Council members loved spreading a little joy and cheer for these brave children in the hospital. The funds raised by the NDES students and their families were generously matched by The Carter Nedley Foundation.
Christmas Boutique
It truly is the most wonderful time of the year. NDES decked the halls of the NDEC auditorium and transformed it into a shopping extravaganza for the annual Children’s ChristmasBoutique.A special thank you to NDPA and Mrs. Halle Worley, along with her team of volunteers, for making this an enjoyable festive experience.
Holiday Dramatic Play
All of the classrooms are enjoying the holidays in their dramatic play centers. The pre-K classroom has a hot chocolate stand, the 3-year-old classroom has a mail delivery center and the enrichment classroom has a cookie baking kitchen. Learning these skills through play is very important developmentally for young children and they have been taking a great ownership over their learning in the centers.
