Clothing Drive a Success

Last week, seventh-grade students at NDES collected over 100 bags of used clothing. After sorting and preparing the clothing, students helped load and deliver the clothing to St. Philomena Church in Cleveland.

As part of the grade level outreach project, the students are learning the importance and their role in helping those less fortunate.

Owls Reveal their Ecosystem

NDES fifth-graders in Mrs. Niksa’s science class and Mrs. Halle Davis’ STEM class are learning about animal relationships within food chains and food webs. In the activity, students dissected owl pellets and studied the physiology of the barn owl and its habits and analyzed the characteristics of its ecosystem.

Equipped with forceps and needles, students separated the fur from the bones and other contents of the owl pellet. The students carefully cleaned and reassembled the bones, and then classified the digested animal.
