Catholic Schools Week

NDES Catholic Schools Week was amazing. The week began with a celebration of the Eucharist and open house. Despite the snow days, NDES was back on track with many joyful activities. Each day featured a different theme that included community, parent, teacher, student and school appreciation.

On Feb. 8, the NDPA treated teachers to a fabulous lunch catered by Cultivate. NDES Student Appreciation Day was rocking. Highlights of the day included an in-school dance party, pizza lunch, student of the hour and no homework. The week culminated with a student Mass and a special service project with its friendship partners. Everything made possible by the dedicated volunteers, teachers, staff and students of Notre Dame Elementary School.

Students Create Mechanimations

Mrs. Halle Davis’ eighth-grade STEM students are learning about mechanical processes. To illustrate the concepts, students designed mechanical animations, which are being used as a study tool for second-grade students to learn about animals. During Catholic Schools Week, eighth-graders presented their “mechanimations” about animals to their second-grade friendship partners.

Testing Gravity

Mrs. Debbie Mulhall and her third-grade challenge students added a modern twist to the famous fairy tale “Jack and the Beanstalk” with Jack and the Parachute. Students created a model of Jack and his parachute to apply laws of gravity.

Adventures in Dog Sledding

On Feb. 6, students in Mrs. Joelle Coates and Miss Alexandra Lestock’s third-grade class enjoyed an in-school field trip on the school’s beautiful campus to learn about dog sledding. As part of a cumulative study in English Language Arts (ELA), the experience brought to life their literary studies aboutThe Bravest Dog Ever, Balto” by Natalie Standiford. Students experienced sledding from the dog’s point of view as well as the sled driver by using commands to “captain” the team.
