NDES 60th Anniversary
On Sept. 16, 1957, Notre Dame Elementary School opened its doors with a kindergarten class of 29 students. It was the first Catholic school in Geauga County. As Catholic education pioneers, the Sisters of Notre Dame would help pave the way for other Catholic schools to open in the area. In celebration of this joyous occasion, all students were treated to cupcakes during their lunch hour.
Testing the Laws of Gravity
Students in Mrs. Christine Nemecek’s sixth-grade science class conducted an experiment to determine which paper airplane design would fly the farthest distance. Using the principles of the scientific method, students constructed a control plane and measured the distance it flew. They then modified the plane and analyzed their data.
Paper Making Perfection
Third-graders in Mrs. Joelle Coates and Miss Trisha Heller’s class took a tour of the Morgan Conservatory in Cleveland on Sept. 18. The trip began with a tour of the factory where students viewed many different paper presses and learned about different types of natural and organic material to make paper.
After the tour, students tried their hand at making books and paper. At the bookbinding station, student assembled and sewed a book. At the marbling table, they experimented with many types of color by dripping a water-based solution onto paper and swirling it into a colorful design.
