Rotary Senior

Allison Kumnick has been selected Kenston’s Chagrin Valley Rotary Club Student of the Month. She has received an Academic Letter for her awards in environmental science, Spanish II, AP Spanish II and A.P. U.S. history. She has been recognized as an AP Scholar with Honors by the College Board.

Allison is a member of National Honor Society. She has participated in service projects, including the 2012 Bomber Bowl, fundraising for WomenSafe and tutoring.

She is currently taking three Advance Placement classes, which brings her total to nine A.P. classes.

She runs and trains independently for long distance races including full and half-marathons.

Allison is involved with Creating Exceptional Character, C.E.C., an elective class that promotes inclusion and acceptance of our special education students.

She plans to major in biology and neuroscience, continuing on to medical school pursuing a specialty in pediatric neurology to work with children born with disabilities.

Secondary Art Show

Twenty-six Kenston High School students have their work displayed in The Lake and Geauga Secondary Art Show, which takes place in the main gallery at Lakeland Community College is up through Feb. 24, directly behind the clock tower. They are Hannah Bates, Jenny Baumgartner, Natalie Braun, Chance Brinkman-Sull, Mara Cass, Halle D’Amico, Kelly Deak, Cara Fagerholm, Melanie Formica, Alex Hajek, Ali Heneghan, Elizabeth Hutz, Brianna Jerina, Hannah Johnson, Elizabeth Kantra, Caroline Kiley, John Kluchar, Bridget Kolibab, Samantha Kukolek, Miranda Kyle, Caroline Madden, Mackenzie Morehouse, Andrew Most, Daniel Rees, Euneata Walker and Bridget Wiberg.

Alex Hajek received a Best of Geauga County $75 cash award. Euneata Walker was recognized with a $50 cash award. Ali Heneghan and John Kluchar were both recognized with judges cash awards of $20.

Speech and Debate

The Kenston High School Speech and Debate Team competed in the district tournament in Berea. Kenston had a “senior sweep” with every senior qualifying for the state competition.

Congratulations to: Divya Thomas in Impromptu Speaking – fourth year qualifier; Maria Agostino and Bobbie Szabo in prose/poetry – both third year qualifiers; James Hogan in Student Congress for his third trip; Alex Hajek and Matt Kelley in Student Congress for their second time; and Nadine Slezak in Dramatic Interpretation; Yar Lisheba in Humorous Interpretation; and Austin Frank – alternate for U.S. Extemporaneous Speaking.

KHS Science Olympiad

Kenston High School Science Olympiad Team took third place honors in the Solon Invitational beating teams from Michigan, Florida, Virginia and Texas. In all, there were 61 teams being represented at the invitational.

Individual winners were: Fermi Questions – Zach Roshon and Andrew Krause, second place; Forensics – Scott Brown and Lindsay Cook, second place; Experimental Design – Paul Gray, Alexis Flemming and A.J. Tatro, third place; Forestry – Rachel Sauder and A.J. Tatro, fourth place; Gravity Vehicle – A.J. Tatro and Harrison Uveges, fourth place; Rocks & Minerals – Stephenie Erwin and Alexis Flemming, fourth place; and Elastic Launched Glider – Stephen Kocsis and Eric Ryan, fifth place.
