Social Media Concerns

In a recent high school assembly, a short play by Accent on Youth featuring Chagrin Falls High School students in cooperation with the Chagrin Valley Little Theatre focused on the things that can go wrong when one posts inappropriate things or pictures through social media.

Following the play, an undercover investigator from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force of the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office addressed the students about the potential dangers and problems that can arise from activity on the Internet.

He discussed social media, predators in chat rooms and on websites, cyber-bullying and human trafficking.

He emphasized the importance of pausing before the post, protecting their brand and Internet safety.

He also explained that their generation is the first to go through or have to deal with these new mediums and the consequences from inappropriate use of them.

Career Awareness at CFMS

The Chagrin Falls Middle School recently completed its career awareness program, which took place on pre-announced days through the second semester. The presentations occurred during lunch periods and were voluntary.

Students were allowed to bring their lunches to the library while they listened to the speakers. The idea was to give students a chance to hear from many varied career professionals.

There were a wide variety of speakers in the program, including a surgeon, a veterinarian, a college professor, a politician, an engineer, a photographer and a sports management consultant.

Middle school parent Janelle Ranieri and the Principal Advisory committee organized the program.

Buttons For Love

Students in Mrs. Katherine Owens’ Chagrin Falls Intermediate School social studies class just finished a “We Are Love” campaign to raise funds for the Free the Children organization.

Students sold Valentine buttons and created posters and flyers that spread awareness about Free the Children development programs. They sold more than 400 buttons, which they delivered on Valentine’s Day, raising $864 for the organization.

Free the Children is the world’s largest network of children helping children through education. The organization helps impoverished children in 45 countries.
