Spring Musical Opens March 9
Characters from Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” will come to life when Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin School’s spring musical opens on March 9 at 7:30 p.m. Presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI), it is the first performance in NDCL’s newly constructed Pat and Janet O’Brien Center for the Performing Arts.
“Beauty and the Beast” tells the tale of Belle (freshman Katie Malish), whose father Maurice (senior Conor Fogarty) is imprisoned by the Beast (senior Alex Shaver). Belle saves her father from captivity by taking his place and discovers the enchanted life in the castle.
Performing Arts Department chairperson Shirley Ivancic Stall will direct the production.
Other cast members include senior Nick Cirino as Gaston, senior Michael Somrak as Le Fou, senior Julian Wilson as Cogsworth, junior Joe Frankhauser as Lumiere, junior Kate Avsec as Mrs. Potts, senior Danielle Aquila as Chip, senior Natalie DiChiro as Madame De La Grande Bouche, junior Katie Moorman as Babette and senior Collin Stephens as Monsieur D’Arque.
“The cast, pit, and crew are amazing, and all involved are working diligently to create a most memorable production in our wonderful new facility,” said Ms. Ivancic Stall. “We are extremely grateful to have the O’Brien Center, and the NDCL talents will be showcased very well.”
Following opening night, performances will be held March 10 at 2:30 p.m., March 13 at 6:30 p.m., and March 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m.
All tickets will be sold pre-sale only and can be purchased through an easy-to-use online system. NDCL students with school ID will be admitted free. Tickets for all other guests will be $10 each.
Building Community
Every Thursday, Christian Leadership students spend time with the Sisters of Notre Dame in the activities room of the provincial healthcare center.
This week the students chose to play board and video games. They enjoyed playing Scrabble, Connect 4, Clue, and even Wii Bowling with the sisters.
In addition to building bonds of friendship between the generations, these activities help stimulate thinking for the sisters in the healthcare center, most of whom are in their 80s and 90s.
Science Olympiad Gold
Congratulations to juniors Zach Geizer and Joe Cermak, who took the gold medal in the Write It-Do It event at the Mentor Science Olympiad Invitational on Feb. 16.
The Write It-Do It event is a technical writing exercise where one team member writes a description of a object and the other team member tries recreate the object using only the written description. They competed in a tough field against 51 other teams, including the first, fifth, seventh and 14th ranked teams in the country.
The Science Olympiad team will compete in the regionals at Case Western Reserve University this weekend. Zach, Joe and the other Science Olympiad team members are coached by science teachers Chris Poulos and Guy Savastano and tutor Tammy Eicher.
