The St. Helen School Science Olympiad team placed fourth at the Case Western Reserve University competition on Feb. 29. Seventeen teams from around Northeast Ohio competed in the annual event.

Students in grades four to six competed in 25 different science activities, ranging from knowledge of different rock types and formations, to building a model airplane powered by a rubber band, to identifying various bones and muscles of the human body and how they work. They spent time after school preparing for the challenges and many won individual awards.

Science teacher and coach Natalie Hudak was very impressed by the students’ diligence and commitment to learning beyond the school day. Everyone is excited for the next competition at John Carroll University on March 14.
