Power of the Pen

St. Helen School participated in the Power of the Pen interscholastic writing tournament at Lake Erie College on Jan. 7. St. Helen was one of 19 schools competing in the Lake Erie District 1 Tournament.

Power of the Pen helps identify, challenge and reward excellence in creating writing. Language arts and reading teacher Nicole Lobaugh helped prepare the young writers for the competition. The school congratulates Natalie, Maddy and Ella for representing St. Helen.

American Sign Language Club

Students enjoy afterschool American Sign Language Club at school. The ASL Club, which meets twice a month, is one of 22 club and sport programs offered at St. Helen. Currently 20 to 25 students in grades 3-8 participate in the club. The club is directed by third-grade teacher MaryAnn Ziga. Students have learned basic concepts like the alphabet, numbers, animals, short phrases and the Pledge of Allegiance.
