Student Council Hosts Food Drive

Thanksgiving is a time for celebrating all that we are thankful for throughout the year. At St. Mary School, it is also a time to remember others who are not as fortunate by giving back to those in need.

The junior high student council invited all members of the school to donate a non-perishable food item that could help out the St. Vincent De Paul Society during the holiday season.

Student council members challenged the classes to surpass 600 donated items and they exceeded that goal. Principal Mary Petelin generously agreed to be sprayed with silly string if the school reached its goal.

During an all school pep rally on the last day before Thanksgiving break, the students gathered to recognize the CYO sports teams and increase school spirit. At the conclusion, representatives from each grade were called up to silly string the principal. Students left for break inspired to help others and with a great sense of thankfulness for their own school community.

Girl Scout News

St. Mary Chardon Girl Scout troops have been busy this fall learning and growing together. The school’s Daisy troop recently bridged over to become Brownies. The girls have since participated in an outdoor skills clinic learning to tie ropes, build fires and make s’mores.

Since St. Mary School is an Ohio Department of Education STEM Designated school, the girls are journeying this year to learn about water and hoping to play a role in helping to create a greenhouse. To stay well-rounded, the group brushed up on their etiquette by attending a Manners Matter course.

Meanwhile the second- through fifth-grade girls sent 20 girls to the Cavs Scouts Night at Quicken Loans Arena where seven lucky Scouts from the group were able to help hold the giant American flag on the court during the singing of the national anthem.

The girls are truly working hard to live the Girl Scout mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.
