Spirit of Christmas

December has already been filled with much reflection and celebration for the staff and students at St. Mary. Students collected new and gently used toys to send to Grahn, Ky., in the heart of Appalachia, as a part of their annual giving campaign. The community collected so many toys that it filled a large trailer and the tables of the community center upon arrival in Grahn.

Students from the Beacon of Light service group gathered to make toys, pack gifts and snack items to be distributed to various people in need throughout the local area. Younger students gathered with their upper grade prayer partners to celebrate the feast of St. Nicholas and enjoyed treats left in their shoes, and the prekindergarten students worked with the kindergarten class to solve the mystery of the Christmas Cookie Sprinkle Snitcher and decorate cookies together.

The season would not be complete without the annual band concert and Christmas programs that brought much joy and pride to parents and grandparents alike. As the students wind down their last days before break, they will continue to remember the reason for the season and be guided in days of reflection.
