Float Takes First Place
St. Mary’s had several students and families participate in this year’s 90th Maple Festival Parade. The school has been participating in the parade for many years. The McCaskey family has been kind enough to devote hours of preparation and creativity to the project, along with the Eppich, Svaboda, Young and Buzagony families. St. Mary’s float has won first place continuously over the years thanks to their dedication.
Mark and Caitlyn (McCaskey) Horvath took on the project this year and were assisted by Kyle Peschke. This year’s float featured a wooden a-frame holding two boiling pots of syrup and two signs reading “Sweet Memories of Maple Sugaring.” The float was topped off with a commemorative sign celebrating the 90th anniversary. They wowed and amazed with their creative design and won first place again for the youth float.
St. Mary students and families love marching in the parade and handing out candy to the kids along the way. Second-grader Emma Payto said her favorite part of marching in the parade is “representing our amazing school in our community.”
