Catholic Schools Week

St. Mary School celebrated Catholic Schools Week with a special event to raise money for its partner school, Divine Child Jesus in Nicaragua.

St. Mary School and Parish have participated in the work of Hands United in Hope and Love, a partnership with the people in the poorest area of Nicaragua. The partnership continues to grow strong even though St. Mary School and Parish have not been able to send mission groups for the past few years due to the civil unrest in Nicaragua and then to the Covid pandemic.

Just before Christmas, the co-founder and heartbeat of Hands United in Hope and Love, Marie George, passed away. Marie and her husband initiated the outreach. As part of this important outreach, St. Mary School is partnered with Divine Child Jesus school, which is located in a very poor area outside of the city of Leon.

In honor of Marie and to help Divine Child Jesus School financially, St. Mary School held a putt-putt golf outing. Students in grades K-8 designed and built putt-putt holes. The theme was “A Trip Around the World.” Each hole represented one country.

All students participated in the putt-putt golf outing and St. Mary School raised about $3,000 for Divine Child Jesus.
