Supporting Those in Need

The junior high leaders decided the best way to help was to collect money, but they wanted to show support as well. Ribbons were the solution and the seventh grade was ready to help.

St. Mary’s seventh-grade class has been working on making blue and yellow ribbons. The ribbons will be given to donors so they can proudly wear them and show their support for the people of Ukraine.

In order to make the biggest impact, ribbons will be available to parishioners during the fish fry every Friday during Lent from 4:30-7:30 p.m. as well as after select masses.

When asked why the student council wants to raise the money for the people of Ukraine, Hannah Passow, student council co-president says, “It is important to show people how to give. We want to show the love of Christ and that we care.”

The collected funds will go to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). The bishops have a Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe, which will provide humanitarian aid emergency services to the people of Ukraine. Since a relationship with the bishops in Ukraine is already established through the USCCB, St. Mary’s donations will be put to work quickly.
