100 Days of School

The staff at Lindsey Elementary turned the passing of 100 days of school into an educational lesson for the entire student body. To celebrate, some teachers dressed up to look like they were 100 years old.

Said first-grade teacher Julie Northup about the 100-day celebration, “We encouraged our first graders to celebrate 100 days in as many ways as possible, including imagining they had lived to that remarkable number of years. After a fun-filled day, students were left with a memorable association and understanding of this great number. One hundred always deserves a celebration.”

During the day, there were special activities and events to celebrate how far the students have come this school year.

1st-Grader Raises Money for Cancer

At the beginning of the school year, Westwood Principal Deborah Nanney and the staff decided on a kindness theme. One student has taken on the challenge in a unique way.

Westwood first-grader Slane Synnott has been inspired by the school’s theme to be kind. The way that she is showing it is by offering to donate more than 10 inches of her hair toward childhood cancer research.

The event, hosted by St. Baldrick’s, is a yearly event. Held on March 17, Slane will join adults and other children to raise money and awareness. Slane is the team leader for the “Far Eastsiders.”
