Markwardt Earns Leadership Award
Congratulations to Dr. Richard Markwardt, superintendent of West Geauga Local Schools, on receiving the 2023 Exemplary Leadership Award at the recent Buckeye Association of School Administrators (BASA) fall conference in Columbus. The annual award is presented to one active member in the BASA region for demonstrating outstanding educational leadership in making significant contributions to educational administration.
During Dr. Markwardt’s tenure as the superintendent of West Geauga Local Schools, the district has shown continued improvement in academic achievement, overseen the successful territory transfer of Newbury Schools, and grade leveled two elementary school buildings. This year the district ranks 10th in the state among all Ohio school districts in the Performance Index ranking on the state report card and Robert C. Lindsey Elementary was named a 2023 National Blue Ribbon School.
Facility Building Tours
The West Geauga Board of Education invites members of the community to tour each of the district’s four school buildings. The facility tours will provide a behind-the-scenes look into the daily maintenance and operations and provide residents with a deeper knowledge of the current conditions of each building.
Guided tours will be held Nov. 18 from 9-10 a.m. at Westwood Elementary School; Nov. 18 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Lindsey Elementary School; Dec. 16 from 9-10 a.m. at the middle school; and Dec. 16 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the high school.
