Westwood Receives Momentum Award
State Board of Education board member Sarah Fowler made a personal visit to Westwood Elementary School to present the Ohio Department of Education Momentum Award for student academic growth exceeding state expectations.
It is the fourth time that West Geauga has received this type of recognition in the last three years.
Dr. Rich Markwardt, Superintendent, said, “I am proud of the work of our students and their teachers that has resulted in West Geauga receiving multiple Momentum Awards. Our students are charting significant academic growth. They are also gaining daily knowledge and experience in the areas of citizenship, the arts, and athletics, all of which are components of a well-rounded education beyond what is measured on the District Report Card.”
Teacher Honored by RIT
West Geauga High School science teacher Aly Ledman was recently nominated as an honored teacher by a West Geauga graduate.
As part of its Outstanding Scholars program, the Rochester Institute of Technology students nominate a high school teacher who impacted their development as a student. David Hartman, a graduate of West Geauga High School, nominated Ms. Ledman for this award.
Included in this award was a trip to RIT to meet with the student as well as a congratulatory reception and awards banquet.
Community-Wide College Fair
Jimmy Malone of Magic 105.7 will be the featured speaker at this year’s KickStart College Fair hosted by West Geauga High School on April 9. The free event is open to the public.
Students from all over Northeastern Ohio, Geauga, Lake and eastern Cuyahoga County are expected to be in attendance. Malone will be speaking at 6 p.m., followed by the opportunity to visit admissions counselors from more than 100 colleges until 8 p.m.
Malone will share a message with the students regarding the benefits of continuing their education, the costs of going to college and information about his scholarship program.
The KickStart College Fair has been a community effort. In addition to the work done by West Geauga, counselors from Orange, Kenston and Beachwood have assisted in the planning.
