Hanford Takes 3rd at States

West Geauga freshman Rylie Hanford recently made her first trip to the state tennis tournament where she placed third.

Principal Jay Bishop said, “Rylie is a talented tennis player. She has already prepared for many years to be able to compete at the state level. We are certainly proud of what she was able to accomplish on the courts this year. Not only has she demonstrated success on the tennis courts, she maintains an excellent GPA while enrolled in AP and honors courses at the high school.”

Hanford will continue to train in the off-season and prepare for her sophomore year as part of the West Geauga tennis team.

Hillcrest Student-Athletes

West Geauga freshman Julia Martinez and sophomore Johnny Patterson were recently recognized by Hillcrest Insurance for their excellence in athletic performance.

A member of the cross country team, Julia started the season strong as the top runner for the Wolverines. A leader on the course and in practice for her team, Julia’s breakout race was at VASJ, where she placed third overall and led her team to a first place finish. Martinez finished second team all conference at the CVC meet, and advanced to regionals at Boardman High School.

Johnny, also a member of the cross country team, consistently finished in the top 10 for the entire season. Johnny is now number six on the West Geauga Cross Country Record Board, was the CVC Athlete of the Week, earned first team all CVC Honors and qualified for regionals, finishing in sixth place.
