West G Hosts Discussion on Vaping
On April 16, the West Geauga Schools will be hosting an informative program called “Vaping and Our Youth” in room 124 of West Geauga High School beginning at 7 p.m. All community members are invited to attend.
The event will include opening remarks by Dr. Ellen Rome, the director of adolescent health at the Cleveland Clinic. Following her comments, there will be a panel discussion including Dr. Rome, WGHS Principal Jay Bishop, Lake-Geauga Recovery Center Prevention specialist Matt Petersen and West Geauga High School students.
New Technology Inspires Students
Exposing students to new technology is a critical part of the learning process. At West Geauga Middle School, a new touchscreen computer has been set up to help students to experience concepts in a more tactile way. On loan from Viewsonic, the large touchscreen monitor gives groups of students the opportunity to work together on concepts and lessons.
Mr. Passafiume’s class is currently using the touchscreen computer as part of the science curriculum.
Students Enjoy Guest Readers
The students at Westwood Elementary School have enjoyed having special guest readers to celebrate book award season.
As part of that celebration, Superintendent Richard Markwardt read the 2019 Caldecott winner, “Hello Lighthouse,”to fifth-graders.
“It is always a pleasure to spend time with our students” said Markwardt. “As parents, my wife and I knew the importance of reading to our kids. Now that my own children are grown, I have to bother some. The parents of our district do a great job raising some wonderful kids.”
