West G Welcomes New Teachers
At the last Board of Education meeting, four new teachers were welcomed to the staff. These included Lauren Cantini, Erin Gray, Katherine Hess and Megan Connor.
Cantini will be part of the staff at the elementary school level. Gray will hold a position as a math teacher at the high school. Hess will support students as a Title I Tutor, available to work district wide. Connor will join the elementary staff.
“We are pleased to have these new teachers join our team,” said Superintendent Richard Markwardt. “I fully expect them to make a positive impact on our students.”
Welcome to our new teachers.
Kindergarten Field Trip
Westwood kindergartners recently enjoyed a trip to the Geauga Park’s Applebee’s Pond and Swine Creek in Middlefield.
Teacher Kathy Todd commented, “We were exploring the pond habitat after studying the pond habitat in science. We were able to dip nets in and find living things and then sorted and classified them into pans of water.”
Field trips like these help students to incorporate their studies into a broader context while enjoying time outdoors away from the classroom.
Multidisciplinary Comparisons
Third-grade students at Lindsey Elementary School have been working on using their skills to complete a complex project using skills from more than one discipline.
Principal Kim Menta, “The project included creating a non-fiction animal book comparing two animals.”
Using knowledge from language arts, science and art, the students were challenged to use a broad array of skills that allowed them to better absorb the information as well as use their creativity.
