Solo & Ensemble Contest

Congratulations go to West Geauga band and vocal students who were well represented in the Ohio Music Education Association Solo & Ensemble Contest on Feb. 16.

The Ohio Music Education Association Solo & Ensemble Contest is an event in which students play and/or sing for a judge who then gives the students a rating based on their performance. Ratings range from: I – Superior, II – Excellent, III – Acceptable, IV – Poor to V – Very Poor.

The West Geauga Band program had 23 events, featuring solos and ensembles, and had 45 students at the contest representing the district. Overall, West Geauga received 19 “I” ratings and four “II” ratings.

The next adjudicated event will be on March 8 when the West Geauga Symphonic Band competes at the OMEA District 7 Large Group Contest.

West Geauga High School vocal students were also well represented. The ensembles Class Act and Treble Septet were given Superior “I” ratings. Soloists who received a Superior or “I” rating were Miriam DeMattia, Lilly Faulk, Tianna Weist and Jack Yochum. Excellent ratings were given to Alexis Baker and The Treble Trio.
