Play, sing, dance or just come to listen to incredible folk music at the third annual Blue Sky Folk Festival at East Shore: A Search for Harmony.
The festival will be held rain or shine at East Shore Unitarian Universalist Church, 10848 Chillicothe Road, in Kirtland on May 4 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Folk musicians from Northeast Ohio and beyond will play original music, on stage and in open jams around the grounds where great musicians can connect with new musicians.
Bring your acoustic instrument for $5 off admission and join the jamming.
The acoustic Americana quintet Nora Jane Struthers & The Party Line headlines the show. The high-energy Nashville-based group weaves three-part harmonies with fiddle, claw-hammer banjo, acoustic guitar, mandolin, bass and drums.
FolkAlley.com host Jim Blum will make a special appearance. Also performing are Spoon Too Soon, Rachel & the Beatnik Playboys, Mr. Haney, Caty Petersilge and Pete McDonald.
This year, festival planners have added a dance floor near the main stage where Bob Bellamy and Wendy Barlow will play waltz music, so bring your dancing shoes.
There will also be workshops plus great food, vendor booths, a playground, crafts and music making for the kids.
We envision the Blue Sky Folk Fest as an opportunity for Northeast Ohio and surrounding area folk, traditional and bluegrass musicians to showcase their talents, said Ted Theofrastous, coordinator of the festival. This will provide both great family entertainment for the attendees and plenty of time and place for the musicians to connect with each other.
He added, Family members can explore their abilities through jamming, listening and learning in master classes. And our community can come together and enjoy the arts in our own backyard.
This daylong, family-friendly event (children 12 and under free!) also offers workshops on playing the spoons, clogging, guitar maintenance, storytelling and more.
Go to the festivals web site, www.blueskyfolkfest.com, to hear examples of the music to be performed and the schedule of performances and workshops.
This program is funded in part by a grant from the Lake County Visitors Bureau Arts and Culture Fund to further participation in, and awareness of, arts and culture in Lake County.
Bring a blanket or lawn chairs. Spend the day or just a couple of hours. Tickets are $10 at the door, $8 for seniors (65 and older) and free for children 12 and under.
