Hello from Geauga County Amish Country,
After church on May 14 at neighbors Bill and Betty Byler’s, Noah and Edna Schrock, Jacob and Ellen Schlabach and children, Roman and Ada Schlabach and some youth visited.
The sun was trying to peek through on Sunday and it was a little warmer. A fire in the kitchen range still feels good in the morning. Hope it warms up to stay soon as my fuel supply is getting low.
I have some peas and lettuce in my mini garden. I have a few strawberry plants and hope they didn’t freeze, as I didn’t cover them.
The morning of May 17, I have plans to go to Cass City, Mich., to a wedding of a great niece. The wedding is on May 18. After the wedding, I plan to go to my daughter Betty and family and spend several weeks. They live in Mio, Mich.
Born to grandson Norman Ray and Mary Ann Byler in Michigan on May 15 a daughter named Kaylene Sue. She joins one sister and one brother.
On June 8, grandson Stephan and Susan Troyer, daughter of Marty and Ida, plan to be married.
On May 9, daughter Sylvia, Mrs. Gid Frieda Bender, Mrs. John Kathy Mullet, Mrs. Rachel Schmucker and I went to Carroll County, Ohio, to visit Mrs. David Ida Miller. Also, going along to visit at Danny and Karen Detweiler’s were Ray Judy Miller and her three daughters, Ruth Ann Hershberger, Regina Miller and Maria. I tell you that is some very hilly country.
The blood drive here on May 13 brought in 62 donors. I forgot to send out letters until it was too late and the count was down a little.
It was a beautiful morning and day on May 15. I had laundry on the lines and it was dry before I got done writing my letter.
Supper guests the evening of May 14 at Dan and Sylvia Miller’s were son Danny Ray and Betty, daughter Rosanna, Aden Troyer and three children, brother Perry, Katie Ann and son David and I. We had grilled chicken and burgers with all the trimmings and ice cream. It was a little cool to sit outside.
There is a chartered bus leaving for a wedding in Cass City, Mich, after midnight May 17 and returning after the wedding the evening of May 18.
Bits and Pieces of the Past
Middlefield, Ohio: May 2, 1899
We were having warm and dry weather until the 1st, when we had thundershowers, which made everything bloom.
Pear and cherry trees are in full bloom. Most of the oats are up nice. Farmers are preparing their corn ground. Sugaring is over, which was a fair year.
J.C. Schmucker has purchased a new sawmill.
Joe Schlabach’s new sawmill was destroyed by fire Friday night.
You all have a good week.
