Fastpitch Players Commit

There is nothing more exciting for a family than seeing their child take the next step in their life. Two West Geauga athletes did just that on National Signing Day.

West Geauga seniors Kayla Lorenzo and Samantha Ange both signed letters of commitment to play fastpitch in college. Lorenzo will be going to Baldwin-Wallace University and Ange signed with Otterbein University.

West Geauga High School Principal Jay Bishop said, “Both Kayla and Samantha have made great contributions to West Geauga. Not only are they outstanding students, they successfully competed as honored athletes. It is important that we use National Signing Day to recognize these young adults for their dedication to West Geauga High School and the plans they have made to compete at the collegiate level. We wish them the best.”

Community-Wide College Fair

West G Olympian Visits Westwood

West Geauga graduate and resident Brian Currutt, who competed in the 2002 Winter Olympics as an aerial skier, visited Mrs. Javorek’s first-grade class at Westwood.

Currutt is a 1992 graduate of West Geauga High School. He recently moved back to Geauga County with his family. Brian competed in the aerial skiing events in the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics and took sixth place.

During his visit with first graders, Brian talked to the class about having a dream, setting goals and working hard to achieve that dream. He also spoke to them about the challenging road to get to the Olympics and the requirements of practicing every day, along with getting the proper nutrition, sleep and exercise in order to inspire them to follow their own dreams.
