Hello from Geauga County Amish Country,
It was a beautiful morning on Monday. We are having a nice break from our very warm weather. Signs point to fall. The purple martins have left for the south, and so the seasons come and go. It seems like each season goes faster.
Weddings continue on. I have three invitations here for the same day on Aug. 23. Also, Ruth, daughter of Mrs. Barbara Schlabach, and Robert, son of Noah and Edna Schrock, have Sept. 6 chosen as their wedding day.
Leaving for a two week New England state tour the morning of Aug. 13 were Crist and Clara Hershberger, Allen and Ada Miller, Crist and Ada Yoder and Allen and Mary Detweiler.
The evening of Aug. 19, our family had a cookout at son Richard’s for Sue’s birthday. Present were Perry, Katie Ann and David, Dan and Sylvia and sons Ray and Judy, Joe and Saloma, Mark and Fan and family, John Mark, Ruth Ann and family, Aden, Rosanna and family, Wayne and Edna Mae and little girls, Matt and Betty and boys, Eddie and Regina and baby and I. We had grilled burgers, baked beans, salad, ice cream, apple goodies and snacks. We sat around the campfire, which felt good as it was just a little chilly. All too soon these times will end until next year.
My company the evening of Aug. 13 was the family of Joe and Mary Yoder, which included Joe Jr. and Betty, Sam and Kathy, Rosanna and Daniel Slabaugh, Lucinda and Dan D. Miller and Nancy. They brought along delicious snacks and coffee. We had a very enjoyable evening sitting out on the patio.
The afternoon of Aug. 16, Mrs. Kathy Wengerd, Mrs. Chester Edna Byler and I visited Mrs. Mel R. Byler, whose husband died recently of a heart attack.
All too soon school doors will open for another term. Some public schools have already begun. It is also about Fair time in Burton.
Chuckles
It was Ladies Night in the All Blond Bingo Hall. The night had been pretty boring; not one single person had Bingo all night. The last game was up for grabs, with a huge prize of $3,500 in the pot. The game went on until very late. Finally, G47 was called, but still no shouts of Bingo were heard. The frustrated caller finally got up and threw the bingo machine off the stage. All the girls were shocked and the caller said, “I’ve just called every one of these 75 balls out of this machine and nobody has a Bingo?” Just what number are you ladies waiting for?” All together, the 412 blond ladies shouted, “Free Space.”
