KHS Blood Drive a Success
Kenston High School National Honor Society hosted its annual Red Cross Blood Drive. The blood drive collected 103 pints of blood to help the lives of cancer patients, individuals involved in traumatic incidents, as well as those with blood diseases. Kenston High School remains the top school for blood donations in Geauga County.
Audit Report Released
Auditor of State Keith Faber released Kenston’s Audit Report of the 2018 fiscal year. He issued an unmodified opinion on the district’s financial statements extending the district’s long history of clean audits. It is the highest level of audit opinion. The report also states that Kenston had no material weaknesses, significant deficiencies or areas of non-compliance. The district also received a clean opinion overall on its system of internal controls.
Each year the state auditor will also issue recommendations to their clients on areas that could be improved. Treasurer Phil Butto is proud that the district has successfully implemented recommendations issued in prior years.

Speece Wins Debate Championship
The City Club of Cleveland hosts the annual High School Debate Championship. The top two high school debates meet in a classic “Lincoln-Douglas” style debate. The resolution was: “The illegal use of drugs ought to be treated as a matter of public health, not criminal justice.” This year, senior Tia Speece was named the champion.
Bomber Bash Makes a Difference
Kenston High School students were honored to present a $4,000 donation to “A-Kid-Again,” a foundation that raises money to provide families of hospitalized children with adventures and something positive to look forward to and offer a distraction from routine medical care.
The funds were raised through the Kenston High School Bomber Bash, a 12-hour fundraising event that took place in November.
OMEA Contest
Kenston High School Music Department competed in the 2019 Ohio Music Education Association (OEMA) Large Group Adjudicated events. Its musicians were awarded the following marks: Chorale, Class C, Excellent (II); Chorus, Class A, Superior (II); Concert Winds, Class C, Superior (I) and Symphonic Band, Class A, Superior (I). They are under the direction of Julia Green, Jeff Link and Scott Sell.
Seussical Tickets on Sale
Kenston Center Stage will present “Seussical the Musical” April 11-13 at 7 p.m. and April 13 at 2 p.m. for a matinee performance in the high school, Robert A. Lee Auditorium. As a special feature, on Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m., Seuss-a palooza with crafts, reading and activities will take place for children ages 10 and under in the cafeteria.
All tickets are reserved and cost $14 mezzanine, $12 floor and $10 balcony/student seats. Tickets may be purchased on the Kenston High School website.
Mock Trial Competes at State
The high school Mock Trial team, in its second year of existence, tied for ninth at state competition. Congratulations to the team of Madeline Worsdall, Dominic Alandt, Chloé Peiffer, Frank Hegedus, Sam Selent and Laura Parsons. Laura Parsons was awarded Outstanding Witness at both trials. Thank you to coaches Jennifer Troutman, Jonathan Witmer-Rich and Stephan Voudris.
Novice Speech and Debate
Congratulations to four Kenston High School students who competed at the Novice State Tournament in Poland, Ohio. Only students competing in their first year of high school Speech and Debate were eligible for the tournament. Valerie Brown placed third in Declamation, while Samantha Stephens placed fifth in Congressional Debate. Candace Matty qualified for finals in Congressional Debate, while Margaret Eibler presented her Humorous Interpretation piece.
