Students Prevail at Envirothon

Students from West Geauga High School demonstrated exceptional environmental knowledge and field skills at the Area 2 Envirothon competition, with two teams earning top placements. One team finished first while another earned second among 48 teams representing 17 Northeast Ohio counties. Their strong performances secured both teams a spot at the upcoming Ohio State Envirothon competition.

The Envirothon is a premier academic and outdoor environmental competition that challenges high school students to apply their understanding of the natural world through hands-on activities and field testing. Students are evaluated in five core categories: aquatic ecology, forestry, soils, wildlife and current environmental issues.

Unlike traditional classroom competitions, the Envirothon requires students to demonstrate practical skills such as assessing water quality, identifying tree and wildlife species, analyzing soil profiles and applying critical thinking to real-world environmental challenges.

The format allowed for meaningful conversations and gave students the chance to ask questions, explore personal interests and gain a deeper understanding of potential career paths.

During the musical performance, students entertained the audience with a variety of songs and demonstrated their musical skills by playing the recorder. In addition, the hallways were transformed into a gallery of student artwork, with colorful and creative displays featuring pieces created in art class.
