Greener Fields 4H

Greener Fields, a 4-H club that focuses on rabbits and poultry, meets once a month, at the Auburn Town Hall. Every meeting begins with the Pledge of Allegiance. Attendance is taken, and the meetings start with new business that needs to be discussed.

At the first meeting of the new year, new officers for 2019 were elected. They are Keirstan Mesnick, president; Mary O’Neill, vice president; Jayme O’Neill, secretary; Samantha Bergansky, treasurer; Bowen Fogel, historian; and Joslyn Borah, news reporter. The club’s advisors are Mrs. Christine Belliveau and Mrs. Wendy Mesnick.

At the meeting, members discussed the upcoming year’s events. They got their membership forms, discussed poultry orders and talked about community service projects.

Four-H stands for Head, Hands, Heart and Health. The symbol is a four-leaf clover. The green of the clover represents life, growth and youth. The white “H” letters in each leaf symbolize purity and high ideals. (Submitted by Joslyn Borah, news reporter)

Geauga Dairymen

Geauga Dairymen held their last meeting on March 24. The club calendar was handed out and reviewed with events for the year.

Advisors awarded members who competed in the Hoards Dairymen Contest. Members who competed last year were also awarded prizes for top scoring.

Preparing for the year, club members voted to pay for club insurance and project books. Quality assurance was discussed for members old enough to test out. Four-H camp dates were discussed as well as the scholarship available to help with the cost. Community service officer Jack discussed donating to the Geauga Rescue Village livestock animals. Members voted on a monetary donation. Members were also encouraged to bring some items on the needed list.

Garrett completed a demonstration of how to complete registration papers for the cows. Sarah demonstrated the proper way to wash hands, which led into the education for the meeting. Advisor Nancy discussed diseases cattle and livestock have that can be given to humans. Danny provided recreation with a fun interactive game.

Next meeting is April 14. (Submitted by Garrett, president)
