Fish Stocking
Geauga Park District is stocking waterways at six parks this spring: Claridon Woodland’s lower and upper ponds (largemouth bass and bluegill); Swine Creek Reservation’s Killdeer and Lodge ponds (largemouth bass and bluegill); Walter C. Best Wildlife Preserve’s Best Lake (largemouth bass and yellow perch); and Orchard Hills Parks’ Pond (largemouth bass and bluegill); The West Woods Affelder Pond (largemouth bass and bluegill); and Beartown Lakes Reservation (rainbow trout in spring and fall).
Stocking notifications are posted on the park district’s Facebook and X accounts.
Families are welcome to catch and take fish from waterways in 12 park district parks as long as they have a current Ohio fishing license in accordance with state regulations.
Fishing locations and their inhabiting species, as well as any upcoming fishing programs, can be found on the park district’s website.
To aide in stocking procedures in years to come, please email any pictures of fish caught in the park district with location and size of fish to park biologist Paul Pira at ppira@geaugaparkdistrict.org.
Native Wildflower Gardening
May 9, 1-2 p.m.
Led by Naturalist Karie Wheaton at Big Creek Park’s Meyer Center, the program will explore the many benefits of planting native wildflowers, from supporting pollinators like bees and butterflies to creating more resilient, low-maintenance landscapes. Participants will also learn about some favorite native species well-suited to Northeast Ohio and where to find them locally for purchase.
Questions may be asked at the program or sent in advance to kwheaton@geaugaparkdistrict.org. No registration is required.
