Lost Lake Kayak Expedition
May 5, 1-4 p.m.
Experienced kayakers will take a rugged, but rewarding, kayak trip to a remote, seldom-seen wild marsh and lake accessed from the Upper Cuyahoga River.
Registration is required. Meet at the Route 87 parking lot just east of Burton Village on the banks of the Upper Cuyahoga River.
Participants must be 16 or older. Bring spare clothes and water, and come prepared for the probability of wading, muddy portages, climbing over felled trees and other obstacles.
Spread Like Wildflower
Join for upcoming wildflower walks in the park.
Tea & Wildflowers:May 4, 10 -11:30 a.m. at Headwaters Park. Registration required, includes wildflower talk and tea followed by a short hike.
Beautiful Blooms Wildflower Hike: May 5, 1-3 p.m. at Swine Creek Reservation. Hike up to 2 miles with rolling terrain and stream crossings.
After Work Wildflower Walk: May 22, 6:30-8 p.m. at Swine Creek Reservation. Hike hilly terrain with The Native Plant Society of Northeastern Ohio.
Frog Fest “Party Line” Call List
Sometime in May, 8-9:30 p.m.
Register at www.geaugaparkdistrict.org or 440-286-9516 to get a call (expect short notice) when conditions are right for the noisy courtship of gray tree frogs and green frogs as they come to woodland pools to breed.
Park District Van Trips
Geauga Park District will drive participants to see some awesome regional spots inside and outside of Geauga County parks. Registration is required.
Cross-Country Van Trip
June 22, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Leave from Swine Creek Reservation. Learn the history and explore the trails of Bessie Benner Metzenbaum Park, Observatory Park and the former Wicked Woods Golf Course. Bring a packed lunch and bottle water. Along the way, the group will stop at an Amish farm stand.
Bird House Van Tour: Bluebirds, Martins & More
June 29, 9 a.m. to noon.
Leave from Burton Wetlands Nature Preserve.Join to look in on bluebirds, swallows, kestrels and other cavity-nesting birds, featuring an Amish colony of purple martins.
