Local township and village road crews will again work with the Geauga County Department on Aging employees and volunteers to remove unwanted items, including appliances, wrapped mattresses and furniture, from seniors’ garages and yards during locally scheduled pickups.

SENIOR CENTER EVENTS

  • The Avenue: May 28, 1-2 p.m. Presented by Dan Ruminski, learn about Cleveland’s Millionaires’ Row. Register by May 24. Fee is $5.

  • Geauga Library Bookmobile Stop: May 29, 9-10 a.m.

West Geauga Senior Center,12650 West Geauga Plaza, Unit 4, Chester Township, 440-729-2782.

  • UH Geauga Health Talk:May 29, 11 a.m. to noon. A representative of University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center will present “Healthy Sleep.” Learn ways to get a better night’s sleep, followed by a question and answer period. Call the center to register.

  • All-Around Exercise: A new exercise class that includes cardio, strength with weights and flexibility training. Try out the first class for free; suggested donation is $3 thereafter. For more information, call and ask for Becky.

Senior Trash Pick-Up Days

Local township and village road crews will again work with the Geauga County Department on Aging employees and volunteers to remove unwanted items, including appliances, wrapped mattresses and furniture, from seniors’ garages and yards during locally scheduled pickups.

Geauga seniors who want to sign up for the trash pick up must be 60 years of age and older and must be registered with the department on aging for 2019 one week prior to the pickup in order to be placed on the pickup list.

Trash pickup days are:

Auburn Township: May 30 and 31.

Newbury Township: June 3-5.

Chester Township: June 10-12

Huntsburg Township: June 13.

Parkman Township: June 14.

Only 10 household items per home; small items can be consolidated in strong boxes and items should be tarped, if possible.

For specific allowable trash guidelines or to register for the pickup, call the Department on Aging weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 440-279-2130.

Rabbit Run Theater Bus Trip

June 7

West Geauga Senior Center and the Geauga County Department on Aging will host a bus trip to Rabbit Run Theater in Madison to see “Forever Plaid.” Bus will depart West Geauga Senior Center at 3:30 p.m. and Chardon Senior Center at 3:50 p.m. Dinner will be at Grand River Cellars Winery.

Show time is at 7 p.m. Bus will return at approximately 10:30 p.m.
