Geauga County parents and guardians will have the opportunity to talk with several local preschools at GCPL's Preschool Expos.

GCPL Preschool Expos

Jan. 17 and 24, 6-8 p.m.

Geauga County parents and guardians will have the opportunity to talk with several local preschools at GCPL’s Preschool Expos.

Preschool representatives will be on hand to answer questions and provide information on their school’s offerings. Participants will have a change to sign up for a raffle. The event is for parents/guardians only.

Bainbridge/Geauga West Preschool Expo is Jan. 17, from 6-8 p.m., at Geauga West Branch. The Chardon/Middlefield Preschool Expo
is Jan. 24, 6-8 p.m., at the Administrative Center Branch,
12701 Ravenwood Drive, Chardon.

Keeping Safe Online
Jan. 18, 10 a.m.
Learn how to maintain online privacy and security. The program covers home computers, laptops, tablets and phones.

Needle Arts Club

Enjoy conversation with other crafters while working on projects in a friendly, informal atmosphere. All skill levels are welcome.

National Pie Day

Pizza, Poetry and Prose
Jan. 17, 2 p.m.
Enjoy an evening of poetry and prose while eating delicious pizza. Read one’s work aloud or practice communication skills by reading a favorite piece, 5 minutes max.

Quilt Block Party
Jan. 18, 10 a.m. to noon
Bring a sewing machine for paper piecing quilt and any show-and-tell pieces one has. Check online events calendar for details about each project.

Open-Sew Saturdays
Jan. 18, 1-3 p.m.
Following the quilt block party, join fellow sewists in an open-sew workshop. Bring a sack lunch or snacks. An instructor will be onsite to answer questions and provide feedback. No registration is required.

Creative Doodles Card Class
Jan. 21, 6:30 p.m.
Doodle in a pattern, creating unique and interesting designs that can be used in many types of projects. Make two Valentine themed cards. No experience is necessary. Materials will be provided.

Financial Aid Night
Jan. 22, 7 p.m.
Youth in grades 5-12 will learn how to complete FAFSA and about college scholarships form a Kent State Geauga adviser.

Winter Birds
Jan. 23, 4 p.m.
Youth in grades K-2 will create a special bird feeder to help birds survive the winter, play bird games and decorate their own bird ID books.

Snow Sculpture Competition
Jan. 18, 11 a.m.
Put creativity to the test and build the ultimate snow sculpture. The sculptures can portray anything as long as they are not obscene. Sculptures will be judged at 1 p.m. on the same day. In the event there is not enough snow, an alternate activity will be provided.

Popcorn Palooza
Jan. 21, 3:30-5 p.m.
Teens in grades 6-12 will celebrate all things popcorn.

Kombucha Level 2
Jan. 21, 7–8:30 p.m.
Learn about flavoring kombucha in a second fermentation and using the brew beyond the beverage. Vinegars, botanicals, fermented foods, cleaners and more. Take home a bottle of infused kombucha vinegar and detailed guide with tips and recipes. Material fee is $10.

Skit in a Kit
Jan. 22, 6 p.m.
Youth in grades 2-5 will explore a kit full of scripts, costumes and props and create a skit.

Sit and Knit
Jan. 23, 10-11:30 a.m.
Join other knitters in conversation while knitting one’s current project. Supplies are not included. No registration is required.

Youth in grades K-5 will join a Geauga Park District naturalist and discover the diversity of mammals in Geauga County.

Teen Iron Chef
Jan. 22, 3 p.m.
Teens in grades 5-12 may try out their cooking and decorating skills while letting their creativity shine through their cuisine.

Healthy Start For 2020
Jan. 22, 6:45-8 p.m.
Start the year off healthy with Jeremy and Jennifer Davis from Middlefield Nutrition. Learn how to do meal prep and stay fit while balancing a busy schedule. A fitness profile will be offered to anyone interested.

Arsenic and Old Letters

Jan. 23, 6:30-8 p.m.
Learn the story of poor Sally Randall and learn how to preserve one’s family’s history.

Build a Bracelet

Make a chakra bracelet with lava stones, which are porous and will diffuse essential oils throughout the day. Materials will be provided.

Author Talk

Join for the third annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day commemoration offsite at Newbury Auditorium, 14775 Auburn Road. Author Gail Lukasik will discuss her book “White Like Her: My Family’s Story of Race and Racial Passing.” Ms. Lukasik will be available for book signing after the event.

Chili Cook-Off
