It was a beautiful day on Monday, feeling almost like spring. It was a hang laundry outside day, which always makes laundry day so much nicer.

Robins are back, crocuses are blooming and daffodils are peeking through… all signs of spring. Some have quit sugaring. They say it’s been a pretty good year.

On March 11, I went to the sad funeral with more cousins of Mrs. Mahlon Troyer, 31, and her 11-year-old son who were killed when a log truck ran into their road card. Her 13-year-old daughter Jean has a broken leg and pelvis and son James was not hurt much. Mahlon has severe head injuries and was still in critical condition, not able to attend to his wife and son’s funeral. The accident happened in Clintonville, Pa. Jean was brought to the funeral by ambulance and returned to the hospital right after the funeral.

I was invited to Crist and Clara Hershberger’s for dinner the evening of March 15 along with Mrs. Saloma Miller and son Levi Jr. Also there was brother Perry and Lydia Miller, of Pulaski, Tenn. After dinner, some of Crist’s married children came. We had a very enjoyable evening visiting and also san a few songs. Perrys left for home on March 16.

Bluebirds are starting to build nests, competing with the sparrows and now a starling is also trying to get in their nest. Guess I’ll have to get the grandsons to chase them away their BB gun.

Daughter-in-law Joe Saloma is still spending time on the recliner trying to heal her knee, trying to avoid having surgery. We planned to have a ladies day there on March 17.

I wonder how long things will be shut down due to the Coronavirus. I think staying home when not feeling well, washing hands with soap and hot water will keep flu from spreading, plus eating healthy might help, also. Use common sense.

A big thank-you to all who donated blood at Joe’s Window Shop on March 14. We had 56 donors.

From Out of the Past

Geauga County is considered to be in the snowbelt and some magnificent storms have occurred. The late Peter E. Miller wrote on Dec. 15, 1993, about the great snowstorm on April 19, 20 and 21, 1901. Snow was 4 feet deep and some famers already had cattle in pasture as well as early gardens made and oats sown. On April 21 was Sunday, but no services were held until April 23, Tuesday. On June 9, 1901, there was frost, but not much harm done. Barely three months later on Sept. 19, there was another frost. On May 28, 1902, there was a frost and temperature went down to 30, and again a frost the next night, and also on Sept. 14.

Test answers from junior, senior and college students:

H2O is hot water and CO2 is cold water.

Water is composed of two gins, Oxygin and Hydrogin. Oxygin is pure gin. Hydrogin is gin and water.

Respiration is composed of two acts, first inspiration and then expectoration. Dew is formed on leaves when the sun shines down on them and makes them perspire.

Quote

Take care that the face that looks out of your mirror in the morning is a pleasant face, you may not see it again all day, but others will.

You all have a good day.
