The American Red Cross has an emergency shortage of convalescent plasma and encourages donations to keep a robust blood supply as the coronavirus pandemic continues. Those who donate through Sept. 3 will receive a $5 Amazon.com gift card.

Donation appointments can be made by downloading the free Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-733-2767.

Aug. 17, Chester Christian Center, 11815 Chillicothe Road, Chester Township, 1-6 p.m.

Aug. 19, Mayfield Church, 7727 Mayfield Road, Chester Township, 1-7 p.m.

Aug. 21, Munson Town Hall, 12210 Auburn Road, Munson Township, 1-6 p.m.

Aug. 28, University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center, 602 South St., Claridon Township, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Help for Mental Illness

Geauga County National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) offers support, education and advocacy for those affected by mental illness.

Family-to-Family is a free program for family, significant others and friends of people living with a mental illness.

A virtual class will run Mondays, Aug. 17 through Oct. 12, from 6:30-9 p.m. Registration link is available at namigeauga.org.

An in-person class will run Wednesdays, Aug. 26 to Oct. 14, from 6:30-9 p.m. at the NAMI Geauga office located at 8389 Mayfield Road, Suite A-2 in Chester Township. Registration is required. Spots are very limited.
