PGC Annual Plant Sale

May 8, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Perennial Gardeners of Chesterland’s annual plant sale the day before Mother’s Day at Chester Town Hall, 13455 Chillicothe Road, features perennials, annuals, shrubs, herbs and lush hanging baskets. Check out the Garden Shed with new and gently used gardening items. The sale will be held rain or shine.

Proceeds of the event sustain ongoing community projects and educational pursuits.

Fresh Farmers’ Market Opens

May 8, 9 a.m. to noon

Geauga Fresh Farmers’ Market opens for its 19th season in the South Russell Village Hall parking lot at Chillicothe and Bell roads. The market runs weekly until Oct. 16 and has an exciting line-up of vendors.

The market is collaborating with Valley Art Center to host pop-up art markets on the second Saturday of each month June through October and has a new feature of Kids Story Time once per month hosted by SPROUTS.

Mothers visiting the market on Saturday will receive a small flower in celebration of Mother’s Day.

Genealogical Society Meets

May 11, 7-9 p.m.

Rob Arnold, sexton of Evergreen Hills Cemetery, will present ” Life of a Sexton” via Zoom at the next virtual meeting of the Geauga County Genealogical Society.

Free Fresh Produce

May 15, 9-11 a.m.

Newbury United Community Church will resume hosting fresh produce giveaways the third Saturday of each month through August at the church located at 14916 Auburn Road.

Cleveland FoodBank provides the service to low income Geauga County residents. Please bring ID, bags and mask.

Blessing of the Bikes

May 16, 12:30 p.m.

Pastor Dennis will perform a blessing of the bikes at Thompson United Methodist Church, 6758 Madison Road in Thompson Township. Arrive at 12:30 p.m. for the 1 p.m. blessing. A short ride will follow.

The church youth group will provide refreshments by donation.

The event is sponsored by the Red Knights Motorcycle Club Ohio Chapter One and Christ’s Crusaders – the Christian Motorcycle Association chapter for Lake, Geauga and Cuyahoga counties.

GGP Annual Meeting

May 19, 8-9:30 a.m.

Geauga Growth Partnership’s annual meeting, its flagship business event, will be held virtually. Keynote speaker William H. Fruth, president of Policom Corporation, an independent economics research firm, will present “Where the Money Is … In the Geauga County Economy.”

In addition, GGP leadership will present organizational updates address the events of 2020 and how they have shaped GGP initiatives into the future.

BMR Hosts Jeep Night

May 21, 4:30-8 p.m.

The Rotary Club of Burton-Middlefield is sponsoring a Jeep night to benefit the Geauga County Veteran Food Pantry at Madrick’s Tavern, 10760 Kinsman Road in Newbury Township. Entertainment donated by Madrick’s will be DJ Jason Adkins.

Each entrant is asked to make a monetary donation or donate a canned good for the food pantry. There will be door prizes and drawings every half hour.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for local area businesses.
