After accepting Paul Pestello’s resignation Jan. 9, the Kenston Schools Board of Education quickly named an interim treasurer during its Jan. 18 special meeting.

Working through Northeast Ohio Educational Service Center, the board appointed Ryan H. Pendleton to the position until a permanent treasurer is hired.

“We are grateful for the services the ESC is providing us during this period. Mr. Pendleton has a great deal of experience and brings along with him a team of experts to support the district,” said school board President Jennifer Troutman. “Business will continue as usual while the board conducts its search for the next treasurer.”

According to a Jan. 19 press release, the district will pay the ESC $5,000 per month for the interim services.

“Mr. Pendleton will become the district’s treasurer of record on Feb. 1, 2023; however, he and his team will begin transitioning on Jan. 23, 2023,” the release said.

According to Kenston Schools, Pendleton has been a veteran treasurer who started his career in public education in 2005 as assistant treasurer of Barberton City Schools before becoming their chief financial officer/chief operating officer from 2006 to 2014.

In 2014, Pendleton was named chief financial officer of Akron Schools and while there, he was honored with the Ohio Treasurer of the Year award from the Ohio Association of School Business Officials.

In 2022, he was named executive director of the North Coast Shared Services Alliance, which coordinates financial and operations support through the Educational Service Centers of Northeast Ohio, Medina, Lorain and Summit counties.

The Kenston school board has partnered with Finding Leaders to conduct the search for a permanent treasurer.
