Geauga Growth Partnership, Kent State University at Geauga and Leadership Geauga will present their annual “State of Geauga” at the next Geauga Economic Leadership (G.E.L.) breakfast taking place at KSU Geauga, 14111 Claridon-Troy Road, Burton. A panel of community leaders from various sectors will discuss and provide updates about the community.

Young of Heart 

Feb. 2, 11:30 a.m.

Geauga Young of Heart will meet at St. Anselm Church in Chester Township. Bring a brown bag lunch; snacks and beverages are provided. Musical entertainment will be provided by Steppin’ Out.

Chardon VFW Pancake Breakfasts

Sundays, 8 a.m. to noon

Chardon VFW Post 6519 will be serving its annual pancake breakfasts every Sunday, Feb. 4 through March 24, at the post located at 752 Water St. in Chardon. Breakfast features three flavors of pancakes, French toast, eggs made to order, bacon, sausage, ham and home fries. Call 440-285-3699 for takeout orders.

Beginning Beekeeping Workshop

Feb. 5 and March 4, 6-8:30 p.m.

Dale Olson will be conducting a beekeeping workshop at Gardner Center, 9421 Bainbridge Road, Bainbridge Township, classroom C5. Individuals and families can attend.

The workshop is designed for people who would like to get started in beekeeping, those who have had previous beekeeping experience and want to get back into beekeeping and those who just want to know more before taking the plunge.

Topics covered will include basic honeybee biology, races of bees, package bees versus nucs and where to get bees, how to start a hive, new and used equipment, keeping bees in a residential setting, feeding, inspections, swarm control, disease and pest management, producing honey and other hive products and overwintering.

Information on package bees, nucs and equipment will be available at the workshop.

History of Women in Air and Space

VFW Lasagna Dinner

GOP Lincoln Day Dinner

Feb. 17, 5:30 p.m.

Geauga County Republican Party’s annual Lincoln Day dinner will be held at the Tanglewood Club, 8745 Tanglewood Trail, Bainbridge Township. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. followed by a plated dinner served at 7 p.m. Cash bar available.

Maple 101 Workshop 

Feb. 17, 9 a.m. to noon

Ohio State University Extension Office Geauga County will present Maple 101 at the West Woods Nature Center in Russell Township.

The beginner class takes participants through the entire process of making maple syrup, from tree ID to successfully producing bottles of pure maple syrup. The program is designed not only for the hobby producer but also for the small producer.
