Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration is underway for children entering kindergarten in August. Children must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 30, 2024. Complete the online registration by visiting Kindergarten Registration at kenstonlocal.org and then schedule a registration appointment to complete the paperwork and turn in supporting documentation.

2024 Hall of Fame

The Kenston Alumni Association is seeking outstanding individuals for induction into the 2024 Distinguished Hall of Fame. These people will be graduates or staff members of Auburn, Bainbridge or Kenston schools who have achieved success in their careers and made significant contributions in their fields and to society.

To be eligible, nominees must have graduated in the class of 2014, or before, or retired/resigned from the district by June 1, 2014, or before, and are not currently employed by the Kenston Schools.

Visit www.kenstonlocal.org for more information and to complete an online nomination, or visit the Kenston Board of Education or Kenston Community Education for a nomination form.

A panel of Kenston High School students, alumni, staff and administrators will select inductees for the Hall of Fame. Selections will be based on nominations, information from friends and families and an application completed by the individuals.

The deadline for submission is March 15. Inductees will be recognized during Homecoming 2024.

Honors Choir Festival

Seventh- and eighth-grade choir students Silas Berkland, Eva Caires, Amelia Jenson, Pearl Johnson, Grace Klar, Penelope Morales, Careese Rice and Will Szarka participated in the 2024 OMEA District 7 Middle School Honors Choir Festival sponsored by the Ohio Music Education Association.

The special event allowed nominated vocal students from area middle schools a unique experience of rehearsing and performing in a large honors choir under the direction of a prominent vocal director. Over 100 students rehearsed Jan. 12 and 13 to put together six songs for a fantastic concert on Jan. 13 at Solon High School.

Speech and Debate Teams Excel

Six additional Kenston High School Speech and Debate Team members have been named as state qualifiers. Addison Altmann, Alessia Cassina, Brett King, Nathan Rolf, William Turner and Grace Voudris join previous state qualifiers Jacob Spencer and Olivia White. The selected alternates to states are William Eisner, Madelyn Foerster and Emily Hunt. The state championship will be in Wooster on March 1 and 2.

Kenston’s Middle School’s Speech and Debate Team competed at Mayfield on Feb. 10. Congratulations to all students who participated in the debates. Placing first were Pearl Johnson in Declamation and Reagan Carnes in Extemporaneous Debate. In Congressional Debate, Brooke Carlson placed second while Zoey Murtha placed fourth. In Interpretation, Evie Bohac placed third, Liam Serquina placed fourth and Ayla Lewandowski placed sixth.

All-State Band and Choir

Four Kenston High School students participated in the 2024 OMEA All-State Band and Choir Feb. 1-3 in Columbus. Lisa Markoff (flute) participated in the All-State Band; and L Denno (Alto 2), Kylie Moore (Soprano 1), and Jacob Spencer (Tenor 1) participated in the All-State Choir.

To participate in OMEA All-State, students recorded and submitted auditions last spring and were selected through a rigorous evaluation process. All selected musicians have attended regional and state rehearsals and worked many hours on their own to prepare for the concert.  The All-State Choir was under the direction of Dr. Hilary Apfelstadt who is a professor emerita of choral studies at the University of Toronto. The All-State Band was under the direction of Dr. T. André Feagin who serves as director of bands in the department of music at Central Washington University.

The All-State Band and Choirs are sponsored by the Ohio Music Education Association. OMEA is the third largest of the 52 federated state affiliates of NAfME, The National Association for Music Education. OMEA members are involved at all levels of music education, serving more than 1.8 million public school students in 612 public school districts and 51 colleges and universities in Ohio.

Mock Trial Team Heads to Regionals

On Jan. 26, the Kenston High School Mock Trial team won all six ballots, thereby advancing to the regional competition. At districts, Alexa Hebert and Grace Voudris both won Outstanding Attorney in the trial. Rhys Serquina earned the Outstanding Witness Award. Kenston will be one of eight local high schools participating on Feb. 16 at the regional competition.

KHS Science Olympiad

Congratulations to the Kenston Science Olympiad team for a fantastic weekend at the Mentor High School Invitational. The students placed sixth out of 42 teams overall and took home several top eight finishes in individual events.

Students placing in individual events included: Max Rossiter and Ryan Menary, sixth – Air Trajectory; Lisa Markoff and Ben Fink, seventh – Anatomy; Jack Beclay and Gavin Watson, fourth – Chem Lab; Lindsey Myshrall, Jay Syslo and Sophie Voudris, third – Codebusters; Gavin Watson and Max Rossiter, third – Detector Building; Sophie Voudris and Lisa Markoff, sixth – Dynamic Planet; Ava Intelisano and Sam Worsdall, third – Ecology; Jack Beclay, Lisa Markoff and Ben Fink, fourth – Experimental Design; Ava Intelisano and Thomas Wilson, eighth – Fossils; Sophie Voudris and Thomas Wilson, fifth – Geologic Mapping; Michael Thompson and Max Rossiter, seventh – Optics; and Michael Thompson and Jay Syslo, third – Write it, Do it.

The students will compete in their last invitational of the season at Case Western Reserve University on Feb. 24. The regional tournament is at Baldwin Wallace on March 2, which will determine eligibility for the state competition on April 27.
