Kenston Cooks Competition

The annual Kenston Cooks competition occurred on March 11 at Kenston High School and was held in conjunction with Kenston’s Nutrition Services Department, Play Blue and the Health and Wellness committees. The event reinforces Kenston’s health and wellness initiatives of providing examples to families of healthy meals and snacks for students.

This year, over 40 applications were turned in, with two students from each grade selected.

Students prepared and plated a healthy dinner entree item. Chefs in the competition included: Sophia Babulski, Julianna Barr, Jaxson Darling, Kamdyn Gardner, Livia Greaves, Maggie Gregg, Regan Hudak, Josephine Hughes, Eli Roland, Nella Schmitz, Nolan Streck, and Kennedy Szarka. The 2024 winners were Nolan Steck, Nella Schmitz and Regan Hudak.

Judges for the 2024 Kenston Cooks Competition were Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum Kathleen Poe, Auburn Career Center culinary arts instructor Amy Ryan, and Kenston Board of Education member Dennis Bergansky. Thank you to the judges for sampling all the plates and having the very tough job of picking a winner from the groups.

Thank you to all the many people involved in helping make this event happen: Kenston Food Services Director Andrew Mendez, TES Principal Dave Rogaliner, KIS Principal Julianne Walker, Timmons Elementary School physical education teachers Sara Brodnan and Jeff George, Kenston Intermediate School physical education teacher Joe Hritz, and the KMS and KHS students helpers.

TES Book Vending Machine

Timmons Elementary School held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 11 for its very own book vending machine. Purchased by the Timmons PTO, the book vending machine provides an additional opportunity to promote literacy, gives students another avenue to access books at school and reinforces the school-wide system of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) strategies. Each month, two students who display the PEAK trait will be submitted by their teacher to the PTO. From there, students will be entered into a random drawing where one student per grade will receive a book. Timmons looks forward to celebrating the love of reading for years to come.

Kenston Center Stage Presents…

Based on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney animated feature, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” showcases the film’s Academy Award-nominated score, as well as new songs by Menken and Schwartz. The musical begins as the bells of Notre Dame sound through the famed cathedral in 15th-century Paris. Quasimodo, the bell-ringer, observes all of Paris reveling in the Feast of Fools. Held captive by devious archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, he escapes for the day and joins the boisterous crowd of gypsies and townspeople, only to be spotted and treated with the cruelty his master has warned him to expect from the world. That is, until he meets the beautiful and free-spirited Gypsy Esmeralda. Quasimodo isn’t the only one captivated by Esmeralda though – the handsome Captain Phoebus and Frollo are equally enthralled. As the three vie for her attention, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the Gypsies – even if he must burn all of Paris to do it.
