Bainbridge Township Fiscal Officer Janice Sugarman officially retired March 31 after 13 years of service to the township.
“I feel lucky that I was able to do this for this long and I feel like it’s been very, very rewarding,” Sugarman said. “I will miss certain things, but I’m really looking forward to being retired.”
Sugarman previously worked for two years as an administrative assistant for the Bainbridge Township Fire Department before becoming fiscal officer in 2015.
During the March 23 trustees meeting, Trustee Kristina O’Brien read a proclamation expressing gratitude for Sugarman’s service and dedication.
“Janice cares deeply for the residents of Bainbridge Township, approaching every decision with thoughtfulness, accountability and an unshakable sense of responsibility to the public she served,” O’Brien read. “Your contributions cannot be measured solely in years or numbers, but in the standard of excellence you leave behind. While your presence will be deeply missed, your influence will remain in the systems you strengthen, the people you stood beside and the values you refused to compromise.”
She added, “We wish you continued success, happiness and fulfillment in the years ahead, and that your legacy of service, leadership and commitment and spirit will long be remembered and sincerely appreciated.”
Sugarman thanked her fiscal office team, the trustees, department heads and residents for their support.
“These guys made me look good on a daily basis and I cannot say enough about how amazing they are. I’m nothing without them,” she said of her bookkeepers, Kat Scarl, Terry Rose and Tammy Most.
She also expressed appreciation for the trustees’ willingness to hear her perspective.
“You guys let me give you my two cents all the time. Didn’t always like it, but you listened and I appreciated that,” she said.
Sugarman said she valued working with dedicated township officials throughout her tenure.
“I have a great team here to work with and I really appreciate everything you guys do,” she said. “Every one of these guys loves this township and they’re here for the right reasons, and they want to make sure this township is as good as it can possibly be. I’ve been fortunate to work with trustees that care about the residents as much as I do.”
