Join Foundation for Geauga Parks for “The Future of Thompson Ledges” at Thompson Ledges Park, 16755 Thompson Road.

Speakers Mark Kuehn, Brett Rodstrum and Dan Best will discuss preservation efforts, new trails and future plans. The program includes a tour of the Francis Spatz Leighton Nature Center and an off-trail exploration of protected areas not yet open to the public.

Meet Us in the Garden

May 2, 10 a.m.

The OSU Lake County Master Gardener Volunteers continues its Meet Us in the Garden talk at the Mentor Public Library, 8215 Mentor Ave.

The topic, “Mental Health and Gardening,” will explore the benefits of gardening on mental well-being, including reducing stress, anxiety and depression.

Union Chapel Program

May 2, 4:30 p.m.

South Newbury Union Chapel will present “Union Chapel in Art, Poetry and Song,” a free program at Claridon Township Town Hall, 13930 Mayfield Road. Doors open at 4 p.m.

The program will feature the gospel quartet Spirit Bound performing songs about Geauga County, along with poetry readings and a brief history of the chapel. The event also serves as a fundraiser to support restoration of the historic Union Chapel.

Local artist Lynn Vandevort will unveil original artwork of the chapel, with signed and numbered prints available for purchase. Additional items, including a Cat’s Meow replica of the chapel, a Centennial Oak replica and memorial walkway bricks, will be available. Cash or check only. The Centennial Oak will also be receiving a historic marker in August.

Claridon Town Forum

May 4, 6:30 p.m.

Residents are invited to attend a town forum, “You and Your Property Tax,” formatted for Claridon, at the Claridon Administrative Building, 13932 Mayfield Road.

The informational session will focus on property taxes and provide an opportunity for attendees to ask questions and share feedback. Participants will include Claridon trustees and fiscal officer, township team members, the Geauga County auditor and local fire chiefs.

Property Tax Forum

May 4, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The community is invited to attend a property tax forum at Heritage Market Place, 15864 Nauvoo Road in Middlefield. Featured speakers include Brian Massie, John Mara and John Plecnik.

Chicken Dinner

May 6, 3:30-6 p.m.

Southington United Methodist Church is hosting a chicken dinner at 4348 state Route 305.

Dinner includes chicken, potatoes, coleslaw, applesauce, a roll, dessert and beverage. Cost is $15 for adults, $7 for children (chicken tenders) and free for children 3 and younger. Cash only.

Diving the Great Lakes

May 6, 7 p.m.

Cleveland-based diver and mechanical engineer Kevin Magee will present “Diving the Great Lakes,” an exploration of the hidden history beneath the Great Lakes, at the Bainbridge Public Library. Learn why Lake Erie is one of the most shipwreck-dense bodies of water in the world. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Hosted by the Bainbridge Civic Club, the free event is open to the community. Light refreshments will be provided.

Route 66 Centennial Program

May 7, 6-7 p.m.

A program celebrating the 100th anniversary of Route 66 will be held at the Burton Public Library, 14588 W. Park St., Burton.

Presented by the Victor Samalot Duo, the program will feature live music, storytelling and historical insights exploring the legacy of the iconic highway.

PGC Plant Sale

May 9, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Perennial Gardeners of Chesterland will hold its annual plant sale, rain or shine, in the parking lot of Chester Town Hall, 12701 Chillicothe Road, where admission and parking are free. There will be a large assortment of hanging baskets, perennials, natives, house plants, herbs and annuals available for purchase. Plant sale attendees can also shop the “Garden Shed” and “Boutique” for unique home and garden items. Cash, credit card and check are accepted.

Genealogical Society Meets

May 12, 6:30 p.m.

The Geauga County Genealogical Society will meet at the Chardon Library for “Tell Ancestral Stories that their Descendants will Love,” with Sunny Morton, editor of the National Genealogical Society Magazine. The program begins at 7 p.m. following social time and a brief business meeting.

Ida’s Cupboard Pantry

Pilgrim Christian Church’s food pantry, Ida’s Cupboard, provides groceries to families in need. Hours are 10:30-11:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday and 3:30-4:30 p.m. Friday. The pantry is located at the rear entrance of the church, 202 S. Hambden St., Chardon.

Bloom & Browse Market

May 16, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Ohman Family Living at Briar will host Bloom & Browse, a free outdoor green market, at 14820 N. State St., Middlefield.

The event will feature more than 20 local vendors offering flowers, handcrafted goods, artisan breads, specialty coffee, natural skincare and more, along with a food truck and live demonstrations. Vendor booths will include plants, handmade items, specialty foods and garden-related goods.

The market is part of Briar’s community engagement series. Cottage tours of The Cottages at Briar will be available during the event.

EAA Flying Start Program

May 17, 2–4 p.m.

EAA Chapter 5 will host a Flying Start informational program on learning to fly at the Geauga County Airport, 15421 Old State Road in Middlefield. A meet-and-greet begins at 2 p.m., followed by a presentation at 2:30 p.m. in Hangar 3.

The program introduces adults ages 18 and older to the process of earning a pilot’s certificate, including steps, requirements and cost-saving tips. The event will conclude with a free introductory flight.
