WGHS Wins Dazzle Award
The West Geauga High School Musical Theatre cast earned the Dazzle Award for Best Musical (Tier 1) for its spring production of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. The Dazzle Awards recognizes excellence in high school musical theatre across Northeast Ohio. The production received three nominations among 23 schools competing in its budget tier. Students performed on stage at Playhouse Square during the awards ceremony. As a Best Musical winner, West Geauga High School received a $1,000 award to be used toward its next musical production.
Student Earns STEM Honors
West Geauga High School student Jacob Neiding earned top honors at multiple levels for his Micromouse robot project, developed with support from the Gear 4-H Club. Jacob designed, built and programmed an autonomous robot capable of navigating a maze using infrared sensors.
Jacob introduced his project in January, earning first place in the West Geauga STEM Fair. He went on to place second in the Robotics category at the Northeast Ohio Science and Engineering Fair (NEOSEF) at Lakeland, qualify for State Science Day at the Ohio Academy of Science (OAS) District 5 STEM Fair at Kent State and receive a “Superior” rating, the highest available, at the OAS State Science Day in Columbus.
Patti Named Principal of Year
WGHS Principal Ryan Patti was named the 2026 High School Principal of the Year for Zone 7 by the Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators (OASSA). The award recognizes secondary principals for leadership, school improvement efforts and positive impact on students and staff.
Nominations were submitted by students, staff members, administrators and colleagues. Ohio is divided into 10 OASSA zones by county; West Geauga is part of Zone 7, which covers seven counties in Northeast Ohio.
As a Zone 7 winner, Patti advances to the state-level selection process. The OASSA Board of Directors will select four overall winners later this year. All zone winners will be recognized at the OASSA Fall Conference in October.
Second Graders Hold Market Day
Westwood Elementary second graders wrapped up an economics unit with “Market Day,” a hands-on activity connecting classroom lessons on goods, services, spending and saving to a live marketplace.
Students created handmade goods or services to sell to classmates, then designed advertisements listing the item name and price. When the market opened, students used “class cash” to shop among their peers’ booths. Offerings included artwork, bracelets and painted rocks, as well as services such as temporary tattoos, face painting, hair styling and nail design.
The activity gave students practice in making purchases, managing money and working as both consumers and business owners.
SkillsUSA Posts Historic Season
Students from the Excel TECC Consortium, a partnership of 10 local school districts providing career-technical education, delivered one of the program’s strongest performances at the 2026 Ohio SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Championships (SLSC).
Excel TECC fielded its largest state team in program history with 68 total members, including 64 competitors. West Geauga students Hope Carty earned a Gold Medal in the Art Show competition and Eric Liedtke received a Silver Medal in Principles of Engineering Technology. Both were recognized at a recent West Geauga Board of Education meeting.
Four Excel TECC students served as Statesmen, acting as Voting Delegates during Ohio SkillsUSA Legislative Sessions and Officer Elections. West Geauga senior Dean Comfort, enrolled in the Medical Technologies program, represented West Geauga in that leadership role.
