Bounce Back To Observatory Park at Boomerang Workshop
The Cleveland Boomerang School will hold court at Observatory Park on July 27 to teach this timeless way to take to the sky from 1 – 3 p.m.
Participants of the boomerang workshop will learn to make and fly high quality boomerangs from instructor Dave Boehm, who studied the art in 1973 and ’74 under champion boomerang flyer, maker and educator Joe Timbery of The Boomerang School in Sydney, Australia.
Teresa Runion, special events coordinator for Geauga Park District, said she was surprised to learn that boomerangs are released in a near upright position rather than thrown sideways.
A fee of $10 includes materials and instruction and will be taken upon registration, which is required. Observatory Park is located at 10610 Clay St. in Montville Township.
EZ Go Cart Tours
In keeping with its mission to connect all Geauga County residents with nature, Geauga Park District continues to offer its new trail vehicle, introduced in 2012, for park patrons with limited mobility and their friends and family.
Reservations are required at 440-279-0880 to join a trained volunteer for interpretive half-hour rides on the five-person EZ Go Cart.
This season’s rides are available: July 26, 10 a.m. to noon Headwaters Park; Aug. 5, 10 a.m. to noon, Swine Creek Reservation; Aug. 22, 9:30-11:45 a.m. (45-minute tours), The Rookery; Sept. 4, 10 a.m. to noon, Frohring Meadows; and Sept. 15, 1-4 p.m., Observatory Park.
Tea Time
Join artisan Phyllis Knapp to create two nature-motif cards utilizing tea bag folding, an offshoot of origami featuring real tea bags and tea bag paper.
“Tea Bag Folding” Art Card Workshop is July 24 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Big Creek Park, Meyer Center, 9160 Robinson Road in Chardon Township.
Tea bag folding was originally done with tea bag wrappers and consists of folding little squares of decorative paper in a specific pattern, then arranging the folded pieces to form a round motif/medallion. The finished medallion can be used for scrapbook embellishments or on handmade greeting cards.
Knapp has taught handmade card workshops for the park district for several years. Her past offerings include spirelli string art, paper quilling and iris folding art cards.
A fee of $12 includes materials and instruction and will be collected upon registration, which is required at the class suitable for those 15 and older.
