Hike To Breathtaking Falls

Affelder Falls Hike takes place March 23 from 2-3:30 p.m. at The Lewis & Ruth Affelder House, 15139 Chillicothe Road in Russell Township.

Geauga Park District naturalist John Kolar believes this is one of Geauga County’s most beautiful and unforgettable sights off trail, and he loves to take people there so they can see its full glory.

Affelder Falls, located in a remote area of The West Woods that is normally closed to the public, is one of the countys hidden gems. When the water level is high, especially in the early spring, the falls roar with an amazing beauty that will leave one speechless. But even if the water level is low, the falls are still a great spectacle and definitely worth the hike to see them.

Prepare for unpredictable weather over possibly snow-covered terrain. Bring a camera.

New for this year, registration is required.

Scraps To Books

Join artist Maryann Sedivy to explore the art of bookmaking and create a handmade book utilizing cast-offs from the interior design industry and other materials that would otherwise be landfill bound – a project first attempted and enjoyed at the popular summertime Women’s Retreat!

“Scrap” Book-Making Workshop is March 20 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at The West Woods Nature Center, 9465 Kinsman Road in Russell Township.

For the $12 fee, a wide variety of materials will be supplied for artists to use; however, participants may also choose to bring interesting papers, such recycled gift wrap, greeting cards, magazine photos and more, to use as unique embellishments to their artwork.

Registration is required.
