Grandparents Day
Special moments with loved ones are blooming at Notre Dame Elementary Preschool.
Preschool students invited their grandparents and/or special friends for a day in preschool. The children made gifts for their guests, sang songs and enjoyed a special snack. A keepsake photo of the children with their guests in a garden scene was taken to commemorate the day.
2nd-Grade Bread Day
Second-graders at Notre Dame Elementary School are busy preparing for their First Communion. As a part of the second-grade religion curriculum, children receive a hands-on lesson on how to make bread. The tactile experience helps them understand the Eucharist. After the bread was baked, the children had a prayer service, where their bread was blessed.
Visualizing Absolute Values
NDES teacher Christine Brinkman presents the concept of absolute values visually. Each sixth-grader was assigned a number on his or her locker. The numbers on the lockers were either a positive or negative number.
The exercise helps students visualize the integers on a number line as it relates to absolute values. NDES recognizes different learning styles and reinforces concepts through different teaching methods.
