#1 Dog Contest
Geauga County Auditor Frank J. Gliha will again be awarding the No. 1 dog license for 2015 to the winner of the “Why My Dog is No. 1” essay contest.
The contest is open to all fourth and fifth graders in Geauga County.
Children are encouraged to write a short essay to be sent to the Geauga County Auditor’s Office, 231 Main St., Suite 1 A, Chardon, OH 44024, no later than Nov. 3.
The winner will receive the #1 tag from Mr. Gliha on Dec. 2.

Munson Township Levies
Munson Township will have a 0.65-mill, five-year renewal tax levy for the fire department and a 2.1-mill, five-year renewal tax levy for streets, roads and bridges on the Nov. 4 ballot.
To be sure one is registered to vote in this important election or if one would like an absentee ballot, call the Geauga County Board of Elections at 440-279-2030 or stop in at 470 Center St., Building 6-A, Chardon.
Munson Twp. Scholarships
Munson Township will award a minimum of two scholarships to graduating high school seniors, class of 2015. Students must be Munson residents, have a GPA of 3.0, a 22 ACT or 1000 SAT score and plan to attend an accredited two or four-year college, university, career or technical institution in fall 2015.
Applications, which must be received no later than Jan. 9 at the township hall, are available at all area high schools, the township hall or online at www.munsontwp.com.

Friends of WomenSafe Fundraiser
The Friends of WomenSafe, an all-volunteer organization, will hold the annual Tickled Pink Arts & Craft Show on Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Kent State University Geauga Campus, Burton. Admission is $1; children under 12 are free.
There will be a large variety of merchandise, which will offer a great opportunity to do some early Christmas shopping. Proceeds benefit the services and accommodations offered at no charge to victims of domestic violence at the Green House on Ravenna Road in Munson.

At the Senior Center
Social worker Silvana Kostura will speak on “How to Effectively Talk With Your Doctor,” on Oct. 14 at 12:30 p.m. at the Chardon Senior Center, 12555 Ravenwood Drive in Munson. Reservations are not necessary.
A new library has been completed at the Chardon Senior Center with computers ready and online. Several large print books are available. Library volunteers are needed; call 440-279-2130.
Food Addicts in Recovery
Food Addicts in Recovery (FAIR) will meet Oct. 15 from 6:30-8 p.m. at St. Luke Episcopal Church, 11519 Wilson Mills Road, Munson. The free weekly meetings offer guidance, encouragement and support to those seeking to lose weight and remain healthy.

Prescription Drug Abuse
The Ravenwood Mental Health Center will present a professional workshop on the dangers of prescription drug abuse on Oct. 28, from 1:30-4 p.m., followed by a free community program at 6 p.m., open to the public, at the Notre Dame Education Center, 13000 Auburn Road in Munson.

Distinguished Speaker Series
Tickets are now available at the Chardon Library for the Nov. 8 Distinguished Speaker Series with guest speaker author Alex Kershaw at 7:30 p.m. at the Notre Dame Education Center, 13000 Auburn Road, Munson.
Kershaw is the author of World War II non-fiction featuring stories of heroism and sacrifices of the “Greatest Generation” during World War II. Tickets for the 6:30 p.m. wine and cheese reception are $20; program only is $5.
