PTO Meeting

West Geauga Secondary PTO will meet Jan. 22 from 7-8 p.m. in the middle school community room. The meeting was added to replace the November meeting that was cancelled due to a schedule conflict.

Come and hear first-hand updates from both the middle and high school principals. All middle and high school parents are welcome.

Email Kelley Anderson, Rkamranderson@aol.com, for more information.

Kindergarten Registration

West Geauga Local Schools will be conducting kindergarten registration for the 2015-16 school year Feb. 2 through 6.

Registrations will be conducted by appointment only. Appointment times will be between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Evening hours are offered on Monday and Thursday.

Appointments may be scheduled by calling 440-729-5900.

Registration paperwork and information will be available at www.westg.org or by picking up a packet at any district building. Registration forms need to be completed before one’s appointment time. Only a parent or legal guardian may register a child, must appear in person and must provide required identification (valid driver’s license, passport or state picture ID).

The following documentation is required along with the completed registration forms: original or certified copy of the child’s birth certificate; two proofs of residency; immunization records; and certified divorce and/or custodial agreement (if applicable).

WG Kiwanis STEM Fair

The community is invited to the 12th annual STEM Fair being held Jan. 31 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at West Geauga Middle School, 8611 Cedar Road in Chester Township. Come see the science projects our industrious and creative middle and high school students have been working on for the past several months.

High school junior and senior teams will compete in the popular Junk Box Wars where each team of students builds a solution to a problem just presented to them from identical boxes of “junk.” The building, contraptions and solutions are always fun to watch. The Junk Box Wars will begin at 9:30 a.m.

The second annual “How do I Fare in Science and Technology?” event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is intended for eighth graders who were not able to participate in the fair with an individual project. There is no prior preparation required, just show up the day of the fair and see how you “fare”.

There will be 12 stations of hands-on activities that need to be solved using life experiences or problem solving skills (science knowledge helps).

Students participate in teams of two. Space is limited to 12 teams, so sign up today.

Register at wg.kiwanis.org or contact Ken Mantey at 440-729-2869 for more information.

Setup for individual projects begins at 8 a.m.; judging is from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Open for all to view. Awards are given from noon to 1 p.m.
