Spring Arrives March 20

Spring will officially arrive on Friday at 6:45 p.m. It is also called the spring equinox.

Happy Wedding Anniversary

Butch Penrod and his wonderful wife will celebrate their wedding anniversary March 19.

Residence Of Chardon Egg Hunt

An Easter egg hunt with the Easter bunny will take place indoors at the Residence of Chardon on March 28 at 10 a.m. Donuts and punch will be served as well. The Residence is located at 501 Chardon-Windsor Road. Call 440-286-2277 for information.

Housing Coalition Meeting

The Geauga County Housing Coalition will meet March 20 at 9 a.m. at the county home. I have been a board member for a number of years, but the group is always looking for more dedicated volunteers to join its ranks. Thanks go to Theresa Slater who chairs this wonderful community-oriented board.

Chardon Easter Egg Hunt

The Easter egg hunt on Chardon Square is April 4 at 10 a.m. Be sure to stop by the Log Cabin for samples of the Kiwanis maple cotton candy and other maple items including maple syrup.

I attended the Tappin’ Sunday ceremony when there was no sap to tap, but as of a few days ago the first round of 30 gallons of delicious, Geauga County maple syrup was boiled at the sugar house on the square. Stop by for the famous maple stirs.

Food Bank Giveaway

The Cleveland Food Bank Mobile Pantry Food Giveaway is March 21, rain or shine, from 9-11 a.m. at the Celebration Lutheran Church, 10621 Auburn Road. State and federal guidelines determine eligibility based on income and household use. Those who cannot drive may send a proxy. The co-sponsors include Celebration Lutheran Church and St. Luke’s Church on Wilson Mills Road.

Comment For The Day

I hope you enjoyed the wearing of the green and the eating of the delicious Irish meals on St. Patrick’s Day. I enjoyed wearing my green braids.

I want to compliment Tracy Jemison for the wonderful program “Shale Update — It’s it a boom or a bust?” It was presented by GGP and McDonald Hopkins LLC at Kent State University Geauga Campus. Jeffery R. Huntsberger was the moderator and the program included panelists Michael W. Wise, Scott Opincar and Michael Kaczak. John Steigerwald is the Geauga Growth Partnership vice chairman and Shale Task Force chair.

Enjoy springtime in Geauga County and visit the Kiwanis group at the Log Cabin.
