Dorothy’s Porch Giveaway

May 28 and 29, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Dorothy’s Porch, a free community giveaway of clothing for the family, household items, bedding, toys and books, will be held at Celebration Lutheran Church, 10621 Auburn Road in Chardon.

Food Pantry Open

May 29, 10 a.m. to noon

The food pantry at the Chester Christian Center church is open to anyone in the community in need of food. One does not need to be a member of the church to attend.

The church is located at 11815 Chillicothe Road in Chester Township.

Community Garage Sale

May 30, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Metzenbaum Foundation will host its “Trunk to You” community garage sale at the Metzenbaum Center, 8200 Cedar Road, Chester Township.

Residents will sell gently used items and crafts from their vehicles in the parking lot, while additional craft vendors and direct sales consultants will offer goods inside the gym.

Proceeds benefit Metzenbaum Foundation community programs.

Polka-Style Worship, Picnic and Concert

May 31

The Chardon Polka Band will lead a lively polka-style worship service at Celebration Lutheran Church, 10621 Auburn Road, Chardon, beginning with coffee and donuts at 9:30 a.m.

Following the worship service from 10-11 a.m., a free picnic-style lunch will be provided by members of Celebration from 11 a.m. to noon., and the Chardon Polka Band will present a free concert in the sanctuary from 12-1 p.m. Activities for children will be available.

Monetary donations will be accepted during the worship service and concert to benefit Torchlight Youth Mentoring Alliance based in Painesville.

Chicken Dinner

June 3, 3:30-6 p.m.

Southington United Methodist Church is hosting a chicken dinner at 4348 state Route 305.

Dinner includes chicken, potatoes, coleslaw, applesauce, a roll, dessert and beverage. Cost is $15 for adults, $7 for children (chicken tenders) and free for children 3 and younger. Cash only.

MHS Garage Sale

The Middlefield Historical Society (MHS) is hosting its annual garage

sale at the Century Inn Underloft, 14979 South State Ave.

EAA Pancake Breakfasts Set

EAA Chapter 5 pilots will host pancake breakfasts June 6 from 8 a.m. to noon at Lake County Executive Airport, 1969 Lost Nation Road, Willoughby, and June 27 from 7-11 a.m. at Geauga County Airport, 15421 Old State Road, Middlefield.

Breakfast includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, coffee and drinks. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 3-12; children under 3 are free.

Free Young Eagles airplane rides for ages 8-17, with parental permission, and hands-on youth activities also will be offered.

Mayfield Church Garage Sale

Mayfield Church is holding its annual garage sale in the main parking lot of the church located at 7747 Mayfield Road, Chester Township. The event features more than 30 sellers. Hot dogs will be available at 11:30 a.m.

Meet Us in the Garden

The OSU Lake County Master Gardener Volunteers continues its Meet Us in the Garden talk at the Mentor Public Library, 8215 Mentor Ave.

The topic, “Watering Resources,” will explore how well-timed and good watering systems promote healthy plants which are better able to fight off insects and disease.
